Steve Moore, LCSW, Psychotherapist and Seminar Leader
Steve Moore, LCSW has been a psychotherapist for 34 years. He has been helping individuals and couples move beyond the “stuck places” in their lives to a more full living experience. He understands how difficult it can be to change a long term pattern and has compassion for people’s emotional pain. He is an astute coach who helps people see how they sometimes get in their own way and also helps them get into creative action. Steve brings both humor and humility to his work. People find him easy to connect with.
Experience: Steve is a psychotherapist trained in Ericksonian Brief Psychotherapy as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Steve's work is informed by exciting recent advances in brain science. He is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist. He has worked with children, adolescents, families, individuals and couples in variety of therapeutic settings, including community agencies, in and out-patient mental health facilities, universities and private practice. Through his work with all types of addictions, Steve is a proponent of 12-Step Recovery programs. He has a particular interest and ability in helping people with compulsive eating disorders. Teaching has been a lifelong passion for Steve. He is a gifted educator and public speaker. For 11 years, he was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work. Steve also trained volunteers at Calvert Hospice. Throughout his career, he has led multiple workshops and seminars on personal growth and development. Before opening his private practice, Steve worked as a psychotherapist for Georgetown University and Duke University, providing the faculty and staff with both individual and couples therapy. Steve values his experiences in all of these settings and is grateful for the many life lessons from each.
His Story: Steve grew up in Maryland and excelled in sports as a young child. As a college freshman, he turned to psychology when his parents divorce tore the family apart. He became intrigued with studying people and himself. He freely admits that he has done a great deal of work on himself and been gifted with many great teachers. Dr. Gene Eberts, Michael Schiesser, MA, and Dr. Harville Hendrix and Ram Dass have had profound influences on Steve's work.
Steve is the proud father of two daughters and three delightful grandchildren. He loves independent films, art, the blues, books and theater.
