Individual Therapy

Why seek individual therapy?

To be alive and engaged with life means getting your wants and needs frustrated at times.  Life is great and at times really hard.  No one among us received the manual for “how to live” when we crossed the stage at high school graduation.  Somehow, we are just magically supposed to know how to navigate life’s challenges such as: romantic relationships, family, finances, death of a loved one, health crises, dating, marriage, childhood wounds, raising children, career changes, etc.  We do our best to figure out solutions, but sometimes run right back into the same obstacles.  The stress and disappointment may lead to emotional and physical symptoms such as depression, anxiety, addictions, insomnia, social withdrawal or feeling depleted and hopeless.  We forget that most often, these painful symptoms come with a message.  It is the language of the unconscious mind trying to get us to do something different.  Many people talk of “feeling stuck” and without options.

How can therapy help?

Individual psychotherapy is a powerful method within the context of a safe, non-judgmental relationship to help people discover the meaning of their symptoms and design alternate ways of getting their needs met.  A good therapist helps the client gain access to their own creative resources by helping to free them from automatic patterns.  Then, within the therapeutic partnership, helps the person make and follow through with an action plan for change.

Why choose Steve Moore?

I have been providing services to clients for over 34 years.  I use a myriad of techniques adapted to your individual needs.  I am a psychotherapist trained extensively in Ericksonian brief psychotherapy as well as cognitive behavioral therapy.  My work is informed by exciting recent advances in brain science.  I am a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist.  I am interested in the past only as it relates to what is occurring now in your life.  My methods are action-oriented and I frequently give assignments in between sessions to propel our work forward.  Your results are very much determined by your active engagement in the process.  In addition, I am a proponent of Twelve Step Recovery work and I have been an active student of personal growth for more than 34 years.  I have tremendous respect and empathy for people’s pain and what it takes to make changes.  I am a patient teacher. I bring a sense of curiosity and humor to our work.  I listen and join you in transforming your pain into your greatness.

"You can't start the next chapter in your life if you keep re-reading the last one."
